Are You Sure You Want to Do This?

While installing your theme through WordPress admin, you may encounter this error message. This is most likely due to your hosting php.ini configs.

WordPress no longer prints that wording. The same failure now shows The link you followed has expired. under the heading An error occurred.; the old sentence survives only inside a long deprecated function.

The theme file is around 3.5 MB and some servers set the default value for upload_max_filesize to 2 MB.

Which message you get tells you which of the two values is too small, and they are not the same value:

  • The link you followed has expired. means the zip was bigger than post_max_size. PHP discards the entire request, security token included, so the theme upload screen fails its token check before it ever looks at your file.
  • A message naming upload_max_filesize and php.ini means post_max_size was large enough and upload_max_filesize was not.

There are two ways to solve this issue:

  • Upload theme via FTP: You can install the theme via FTP upload method. Nothing is uploaded through PHP on this route, so neither limit applies.

  • Change php.ini file: To solve this issue, you should either increase your maximum upload size on your hosting or ask the hosting provider to do it for you. This is a very common request and they should be able to help you out. Once the limit is increased, you can re-try the install.

Ask for 32M rather than for a figure that only just fits the zip. That is what Foxiz's own System Info page checks for, on both Max Upload Size and Post Max Size, and the demo package and your media library run into the same two values later. Raise post_max_size with it: it has to be at least as large as upload_max_filesize or the larger value does nothing.

You can confirm the new values without retrying the install. System Info sits in the Foxiz dashboard menu and prints both, marking anything below the minimum.
